Did you know that it only takes 0.1 seconds for a cable fire to happen when an arc fault occurs in switchgear?
After only 0.2 seconds, both copper and steel begin to burn. With the fastest reaction time in the market, TVOC-2 detects the arc and, within 1ms, sends a signal to the associated circuit breaker to shut down the power source, thus reducing hazards to personnel and damage to equipment inside the switchgear.
What is arc fault protection?
The term arc fault or arcing are familiar by most people in the electrification industry. But how does an arch occur? It happens when an short-circuit faults in low voltage or medium voltage switchgears. As most arc fault occurs it will always lead to damaging to the equipment or injury to a person. For example, a tree branch falls on a power line during a storm it will than create an electrical discharge between the conductor or to the ground.
More often than not, we see this type of critical infrastructure in Food & Beverage and even Mining applications with aging components that may have degraded over time”.
Reasons why we need to implement Arc Guard System™
To prevent injuries or death to the person who is operating at the switch room and to protect the machines and equipment from upstream or downstream. Reducing the amount of unnecessary production stops for manufacturing plants.
Key features:
- SIL-2 certified according to IEC 61508 and IEC 62061 ensures extremely reliable function
- Modbus RTU communication protocol
- Integrated in ABB ability TM EDCS
- Available in EkipConnect 3 configuration tool
- Together with CSU-2 both light and current are used for tripping in less than 2 ms
- The CSU-2 informs the user of malfunctional current sensors
